Five Points of Inspiration: Monika Choudhary in GoodHomes India

GoodHomes India invited 52 creative minds to share the experiences and objects that shaped their thinking during 2025.

Among them, Monika Choudhary offered five points of inspiration rooted in observation, material and everyday wonder.

Her choices move from reflected light to unfinished surfaces. Moreover, they reveal how design intelligence often begins before drawing starts.

Design inspiration begins with attention

Water catching the sky is Monika’s first reference. Water multiplies light, extends space and brings calm into the surrounding environment.

In addition, she finds joy in nature’s rhythm. Wet morning air and rain moving across a tin roof create a simple, memorable sensory experience.

These moments connect atmosphere with emotion. Therefore, they show how light, sound and weather can shape the way people remember space.

The honesty of unfinished materials

An unfinished wall forms the third point. Its surface still carries the marks of making and reveals the human hand.

However, incompletion does not suggest carelessness. Instead, it expresses honesty and acknowledges that human work continues to evolve.

The fourth reference is an amethyst gifted by a miner friend. Its violet stillness shifts attention away from size and towards endurance.

Consequently, the mineral becomes more than an object. It carries friendship, geological time and the quiet strength of material presence.

Creation and transformation

Monika’s fifth point is a fragment of volcanic rock from Iceland. She describes it as the closest physical expression of a frozen explosion.

The rock holds creation and destruction within one form. Therefore, it becomes a reminder that opposing forces can also collaborate.

Together, these five points of inspiration reveal a design sensibility shaped by light, climate, material memory and transformation.
